Yesterday was my first visit to Redlands Family Dentistry. The office staff was very friendly and helpful. The exam and X-rays were smooth and efficient. The entire place was spotless and beautifully decorated to give a homey feel.

Dental Implant Candidates
Most patients who are missing teeth are good candidates for dental implants. However, for the treatment to be successful, patients must meet specific criteria. Here are some factors to consider when consulting with your dentist at our Redlands, CA, office:
Healthy Bone Tissue
Your jawbone has to be strong enough to support dental implants. For patients with low bone density, bone grafting can replace lost tissue and provide better stability.
Smoking Habits
Cigarettes can lead to implant failure as tobacco negatively affects your body's ability to heal. Quitting smoking before your implant surgery will greatly increase its likelihood of success.
Gum Health
Periodontal disease weakens your gums, preventing dental implants from taking hold in your jawbone. If needed, our dentist may plan gum disease treatments to improve your periodontal health.
Traditional Dentures vs Implant-Supported Dentures
If most of your teeth are missing or badly compromised, traditional dentures and implant-supported dentures are two treatments that can rehabilitate your smile. No matter which route you take, our Redlands, CA, dental office is equipped with the staff and knowledge to help rebuild your bite and help you speak clearly.
Traditional Dentures
Traditional dentures have a gum-like acrylic base that sits on your dental arch. Although more affordable than implant-supported dentures, they have some drawbacks. They can slip and slide out of place, especially while you are eating or talking. This could force you to avoid certain foods or refrain from speaking. The longer you are missing a tooth, the more your jawbone will shrink, making your dentures more prone to slip out of place. Traditional dentures require daily removal for cleaning and to prevent bacteria from growing in your mouth, which can lead to gum disease.
Implant-Supported Dentures
Implant-supported dentures are more stable than traditional dentures. Each implant is fused to your jawbone, providing your dentures with the ultimate stability while allowing you to speak clearly. You will also be able to eat your favorite foods without worrying about your dentures slipping off out. An implant encourages new bone growth in your jawbone, keeping it strong and improving your oral health. Implant-supported dentures are no more difficult to maintain than your natural teeth. They just require brushing, flossing, and regular dentist appointments.
State-of-the-Art Technology & Quality Materials
Our Redlands office is outfitted with the latest technology to perform safe and consistent dental implant surgery. We perform our surgeries with Sirona Galileo's 3D imaging technology, which safely X-rays your teeth and jawbone. This technology delivers clear pictures that show your dentist the optimal positions for implants.
When it comes to materials for crowns and bridges, our CEREC® machine allows us to digitally create restorations and customize them for each patient's unique smile. This tool allows us to provide same-day crowns and bridges for implants. Like Sirona Galileo, CEREC is comfortable and precise.

Fitting and Restoration
Dental implant treatment can take approximately six months from start to finish. The timeline may be longer if your treatment includes surgery like bone grafting to reinforce your jawbone.
Consultation
The first step in your treatment is meeting with Dr. Hoffer to determine if you are a good candidate for dental implants. Dr. Hoffer will plan your implant treatment based on your needs.
Implant Fitting
The titanium implant post is strategically placed in the jawbone through small incisions in the gums. After surgery, it takes four to six months for the implants to fuse to the bone tissue.
Abutment
The abutment, which connects the restoration to the implant, is fitted at our Redlands office. Another short healing period of about two weeks is needed before the final step of your treatment.
Recovery
Following your implant surgery, you may experience swelling, discomfort, and bleeding. However, most patients are able to return to work the next day. In order to have a safe and fast recovery, it is essential that you:
- Rest for the remainder of the day following your procedure
- Brush teeth gently around the surgical sites
- Apply ice packs to manage any swelling
- Eat soft foods following the surgery
- Avoid exercise for at least three days
- Take medications as prescribed
